About Us
Freibeutler was born in the north – where the wind is rougher, the style clearer, and the paths sometimes wet.
Here, bags and backpacks are created that are not intended for expeditions, but for real life: for commuting, spontaneous trips, rain showers, evenings with friends and all the little adventures in between.
We believe that freedom begins in everyday life. In unplanned moments. In detours that take you further than any destination. That's why we design products that give you space: lightweight, functional, water-repellent, thoughtfully designed – without unnecessary frills.
Our designs follow a Nordic approach: function over frills, clarity over chaos, quality over short-livedness.
Every seam, every compartment, every detail has a purpose. Nothing more. Nothing less. And that's precisely why Freibeutler accompanies you every day – quietly, reliably, and with a calm strength. For paths you know. And paths you will yet walk.
Freebooters – For freedom in everyday life.

Freibeutler is a small team from Hamburg who like to do things well and with care. We develop products that don't need to shout about themselves, but rather impress with their everyday practicality, functionality, and clean, Nordic design. Our roots are in the North – and some of that serenity and down-to-earth attitude is reflected in our bags.
Within our team, we value transparency, fairness, and a straightforward, collaborative approach. We work flexibly, communicate openly, and encourage the exchange of ideas. It's important to us that people feel comfortable here – both within the team and as part of the brand. Anyone who shares our values is always welcome at Freibeutler.
What do we forgo? Exaggerations, rigid structures, and all forms of discrimination. We prefer to be honest, pragmatic, and open – just as we develop our products.

Our products are created where they begin: in Hamburg, in our own workspace. Here, we develop every design ourselves – with the aim of creating functional, timeless, and durable companions. We deliberately work slowly, carefully test materials, and refine the details until everything is perfect.
Our bags and backpacks are sewn in a family-run factory in India with whom we have worked closely for years. The factory meets SA8000 standards, which guarantee fair wages, safe working conditions, no child or forced labor, and a respectful working environment. For us, this partnership is not just another step in the production process, but a genuine collaboration – built on trust and quality.
When selecting materials, we focus on high-quality, certified fabrics. Some models are made from durable synthetic fibers, while others utilize recycled rPET – where it makes sense and is of a suitable quality. What's important to us is not a label, but rather that every material is produced responsibly: PFC-free water-repellent finish, treated dyeing water, and safety certifications such as Oeko-Tex, GRS, and Bluesign®.
Our strength lies not in perfect buzzwords, but in an honest ambition: to develop durable products and manufacture them together with people we trust.

For us, commitment means doing what we can – without seeking the limelight. We repair bags instead of throwing them away, and regularly donate discarded products to projects like the Hamburg DOCK Days, where they benefit people who truly need them.
We've been working completely vegan since 2016 – not as a trend, but because it makes sense and is fair to us. No leather, no animal products, no compromises. It's simpler than you think and also results in a better carbon footprint.
Another part of our commitment is to nature conservation: Since 2020, we have been a NABU (German Nature and Biodiversity Conservation Union) sponsor and support the rewetting and protection of German peatlands. Peatlands store twice as much CO₂ as all the world's forests combined – which is why their preservation is a particularly effective contribution to climate protection.
For us, every contribution counts – big or small. And the more we grow, the more we want to give back.
